The Manchester Opera Ensemble will be performing Puccini’s opera Suor Angelica next Tuesday and Wednesday at Manchester’s Central Library.

The performance will be to raise money and awareness for women’s equality issues and victims of abuse.

The production will be sung in Italian with English Surtitles and will be performed by a cast of professional opera singers, including Royal Northern College International Artist Diploma Soprano Katie Lowe and the established Mezzo Soprano Antonia Sotgiu.

The performance is a re-telling of Puccini’s heart-rending story and will be set in the present day in a rehabilitation center for Women who have fallen victim to abuse. The piece, with the help of the Women’s Equality Party will be an effort to raise awareness of these issues and those of female equality in today’s turbulent socio-political climate.
