The Labour MP for Graham Stringer has been accused of propping up Theresa May’s Government as he joined three other Labour MP’s for the second night running in voting with the Tory party on crucial Brexit votes.

Last night, along with Kate Hoey,Frank Field and John Mann, the member for Blackley and Broughton voted with the government as anti Brexiteers tried to force legislation which would have seen the country forced to join a customs union post leaving Europe if Mrs May did not come up with a frictionless trade solution before the end of January 2019.

With twelve Tory MP’s defying their party and voting for the legislation, the votes of the four Labour MP’s were the difference as the government won by just six votes.

The government though was defeated 305-301 on a separate amendment which will require them to seek continued UK participation in the EU’s system for regulation of medicines after Brexit.

Stringer now faces an backlash from Labour supporters amid claims the Government could have been forced to call a general election if it had been defeated.

Stringer’s views on Brexit are well known,a stronger suppprter of the leave campaign, has in recent months accused so called Remoaners of running a campaign to demoralise people and trying to overturn the democratic decision now that the people made in 2016.

Stringer was one of 70 hardline Brexiteers to sign a letter of complaint to the BBC, arguing the network’s Brexit coverage was biased to the Remain campaign and was one of seven Labour MPs to vote in favour of the EUWithdrawl Bill which converts all EU laws into UK law to prevent gaps in legislation in the aftermath of Brexit last September.
