Manchester City Council has launched its renting pledge asking Private landlords, letting and management agents to sign a pledge to make private renting better across the city.

Private rental is expanding more rapidly across Manchester than in any other city in the UK and twenty s even per cent of its residents now rent from private landlords.

The pledge, which is part of the City’s rental strategy, was approved by the Executive of the City Council back in March.

The City has rejected the concept of a Landlord registration scheme is favour of this voluntary scheme which is intended to raise awareness of the rights and responsibilities for both landlords and tenants.

However with over seventy per cent of private rentals run by individuals who own no more than three properties, the council recognises that the scheme will not be an easy one to implement.
