Manchester Camerata have teamed up with The Keyboard Trust to run a series of concerts highlighting some of the world’s most talented up and coming young pianists.
UpClose Next Generation, part of The Keyboard Trust’s 25th Anniversary, gives these pianists the chance to collaborate artistically with the orchestra, and is part of the Camerata’s eclectic and experimental series performed in unexpected venues around the city.
In the last of the series on 2 May, Jordanian-Palestinian pianist Iyad Sughayer will perform two of the most spiritual, ethereal and deeply moving pieces of music written. Iyad, who studied music in Manchester, is regarded as one of the Middle East’s most promising young artists.
Born in Amman in 1993, he received his first lessons at the age of five from the pianist, conductor and composer Mohammad Sidiq at Jordan’s National Music Conservatory and made his first concerto appearance at the age of eight with the National Music Conservatory Orchestra.
In 2008, he continued his piano studies at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester. In 2012, Iyad was awarded a full scholarship to study with the distinguished Scottish pianist Dr. Murray McLachlan at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
During his time at the RNCM, Iyad was the winner of both the RNCM Concerto Competition and the EPTA Piano Competition and received the Peter Frankl Piano Prize.
