Manchester-brewed craft golden ale, Maple Gold, from independent family brewery Joseph Holt, has been selected by Aldi to be one of eighteen regionally-brewed craft beers to be stocked in stores nationwide this May as a Specialbuy.
A long-standing part of Manchester’s history, Joseph Holt brewers has been brewing ales for over 160 years. Still housed in its original building, it is one of only a handful of breweries in the country still using traditional 54 litre Hogshead barrels to transport its beers and ales. The deal with Aldi marks a major coup for the business set to drive sales and gain nationwide awareness for its Maple Gold ale, which has up until now only been available in the North West.
Helen Timperley from Joseph Holt brewery said: “We’re incredibly proud of our Maple Gold beer, and we’re thrilled that Aldi has given us the opportunity to bring it to even more people across the country.
“Joseph Holt has a rich history of producing some of the finest beer in Manchester, brewed with passion, craftsmanship and drive, and our deal with Aldi is testament to this history and the brewing generations before ours.”
The iconic ale was cherry picked by Aldi’s specialist UK buying team to feature in the retailer’s first ever UK Beer Festival, designed to celebrate the very best of regionally-brewed British beer.

Maple Gold, which will be available as a Specialbuy in Aldi stores at £1.25 per bottle, is a rich golden ale, crafted using amber malts and Cascade aroma hops. With refreshing hints of maple, it pairs well with a Greek garden salad or sweet potato dishes.
Launching on 29th May Joseph Holt’s Maple Gold will be available in all Aldi stores in England and Wales alongside a further seventeen premium craft beers from regional breweries across England and Wales, priced at £1.25. As with all Specialbuys, once they’re gone they’re gone!
