A Partington man has appeared in court in Manchester today charged with the murder of a baby.

Samuel Gildea, aged 29 of Woodruff Walk, appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court was initially charged with assault but, following the death of a four-month-old baby, this was changed to a murder charge.

The baby boy was found unconscious at the house in Woodruff Road on Wednesday and was taken to hospital with significant head injuries where this morning, he sadly died.

A 25-year-old woman who was previously arrested in connection with the investigation has been released with no further action to be taken.
