Low-cost airline Eurowings has announced it will launch a new route from Manchester to Salzburg this winter.

The German airline will launch a twice weekly service to the Austrian city from 04 December 2017.

Salzburg is famous for being the backdrop to the Sound of Music and will provide passengers with a gateway to some of the Alps’ best ski resorts.

Ivan Orec, Manager, Network Development & Airport Relations at Eurowings, said: “We are pleased to announce new two-weekly service from Salzburg to Manchester. Flights on the new route will operate every Monday and Friday starting from December.

On this route, with our low fares, we offer our passengers free of charge transport of their ski equipment.”

Stephen Turner, Commercial Director for Manchester Airport, said: “It’s great to see Eurowings expanding their presence here at Manchester with the introduction of this new route. We have seen this year that the ski market continues to grow and we’re confident this new route to Salzburg will prove hugely popular with our passengers looking to take advantage of the great ski resorts in the Alps.”

The service will operate on Mondays and Fridays until 23 March 2018 on an A320 aircraft. Fares start from £54.99 each way.

Eurowings currently flies to Cologne, Dusseldorf and Hamburg from Manchester all year round.
