Two men have been jailed after arming themselves with a meat cleaver and a knife to rob a McDonalds in Stockport.
Robert Wood,46, of Kiwi Street, Salford and Ashley Makin, 27 of Kiwi Street, Salford pleaded guilty to armed robbery at an earlier hearing.

They were sentenced at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court today, Makin received five years in prison and Wood received 5 years 4 months in prison.

Shortly before 12.40am on Tuesday 29 September 2015, Wood and Makin, who were masked and armed with a knife and a meat cleaver, went into McDonalds on Ashton Road in Bredbury.

The manager was stood behind the counter when they ran towards him with the meat cleaver and knife. Both then went behind the counter and threatened him with the cleaver, demanding that he opened the safe.

They then threatened other members of staff with the weapons and forced the manager to empty the contents of the safe into a bag.Both then fled with £1700 in cash and the police were called.IMG_1041

Detective Constable Mark Healey of GMP’s Stockport Borough said: “This was a violent robbery that left staff terrified. I hope today’s sentencing demonstrates our commitment to getting justice and ridding our streets of knife crime.”
