A Pendleton firm has wrapped up help for 14,000 people in need.
Glendale Foods, based in Pendleton, offered to donate 14,000 frozen wraps after hearing from Salford City Council that local foodbanks are in desperate need.
The sandwiches – which are normally supplied to airlines – will be handed out by FareShare, which redistributes surplus food from the food industry to charities and community groups across Greater Manchester to help people and avoid waste going to landfill.
Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, praised the generosity of managing director Paul Burkitt and operations director Mark Jones.

“It is extremely heart warming to see one of our local businesses recognising the plight of our most vulnerable residents in the city. I want to thank the team at Glendale Foods” he said.
“Families and individuals on low incomes are really struggling to afford food, heating and essential items. The food banks provide a life line at a time of real crisis and I would encourage residents and businesses to support their endeavours.”

Miranda Kaunang, development manager, FareShare, said the wraps would be very welcome and would be shared across Greater Manchester.

“FareShare Greater Manchester re-distributes surplus food to over 200 frontline charities across Greater Manchester. Many people are really struggling to cope with life on a very low or no incomes so we really appreciate today’s donation and we would love to hear from other food companies in the region,” she said.
Glendale, which employs nearly 200 staff and supplies major retailers and airlines as well as producing its own branded snacks and puddings, has had its own difficulties to overcome in recent years. In 2012 a fire destroyed three production lines just after a £1 million investment and 50 fire crews and 12 engines had to battle through the night to stop fire spreading to the rest of the plant.
But, since then the company has gone from strength to strength gaining customers, opening a £3 million replacement production line earlier this year and recently winning a double A star rating from the British Retail Consortium.
