It’s Salford, 1880 and widower Henry Hobson is struggling to handle his three grown-up daughters, each seeking a husband and an escape from the family-run boot makers shop. But with Hobson spending more time at the Moonraker’s pub than on the business of boots and clogs, the future prosperity of the family firm is held in the hands of his eldest daughter Maggie.

The Oldham Coliseum Theatre continues its northern flavoured season of plays with Lancashire favourite, Harold Brighouse’s Hobson’s Choice, directed by David Thacker as a battle of the sexes looks set to commence as father and daughter go head to head.

The role of Henry Hobson will be played by Maxwell Hutcheon in this Classic Lancashire comedy.Maxwell has appeared in numerous theatre productions, including A Jovial Crew, Alls Well That Ends Well and The Taming of the Shrew at the Royal Shakespeare Company and he recently performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Othello and Cyrano De Bergerac at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre, Chester.

His film credits include Private Peaceful, based on the First World War novel by Michael Morpurgo and Close My Eyes. You may also recognise Maxwell from his numerous television appearances including Band of Brothers, Holby City, Doctors and Trial and Retribution.

Natalie Grady takes on the role of the spirited Maggie Hobson, daughter of Henry Hobson. Natalie recently appeared in the Library Theatre Company’s productions of Mother Courage and her Children by Bertolt Brecht and The Daughter-in-Law, where she was awarded Best Supporting Actress at the 2012 Manchester Theatre Awards for her role.
