Planning bosses in Trafford have given the green light to the first phase of the Future Carrington project.

The scheme, which forms part of a £100m revitalisation of Carrington Village will see 725 new homes being built, as well as 46,450 sq.m of business space, 929 sq.m of retail and health facilities, and public open space.

The plans are set to transform the site of the former Carrington Shell processing plant and could create up to 1800 new jobs.

Shell operated on the Carrington Estate from 1948 until recently, employing over 3,500 employees at its peak in the 1980s. Today only one operational chemical plant, operated by Lyondellbasell Industries, remains on site.

Darren Jones, managing director of developers HIMOR, said: “Future Carrington is a flagship vision as part of the Northern Powerhouse and we’re delighted this planning consent enables the delivery of long-held, shared ambitions to create a thriving, high quality community.”

Work is set to start later this year
