City of Trees is asking members of the public to plant a tree at a series of events at Hurst Wood in Bury, with plans to plant over 4,000 new trees.

The 98 acre site in Whitefield, Bury is already home to 20 hectares of native mixed broadleaf woodland, with City of Trees, alongside the local community, creating additional native woodland breathing new life into the area.

Two events will be held where members of the public can come along and plant a native tree and shrub such as oak and wild cherry.

1,000 trees have already been planted across the site involving over 40 volunteers with these upcoming planting events helping to complete this native woodland, boosting biodiversity in the area.

Andy Long, Woodlands Officer at City of Trees comments “Trees deliver a whole range of benefits from creating healthier, happier communities to helping tackle climate change, reconnecting our children to the natural world, and providing essential habitats for wildlife.

“The addition of these 4,000 trees will help contribute to the City of Trees vision of planting 3 million trees within a generation – one for every man, woman and child in Greater Manchester”.

Events take place from 10am – 3pm on Thursday, 13 October and Saturday 15 October with refreshments and tools provided. For more information contact Andy Long on 0161 872 1660 or andy@cityoftrees.org.uk or visit www.cityoftrees.org.uk
