Glen Chapple has been confirmed as acting head coach at Lancashire following Ashley Giles’ move to Warwickshire with Mark Chilton appointed as Acting Assistant Coach.

Commenting on the double appointment Lancashire County Cricket Club director Paul Allott said: “We are delighted to promote two exceptional coaches to the vacant interim positions.

“Glen and Mark are former captains who know our Club and the cricket world well, they have great skills and are proud Lancastrians. The Board will give them our total support during the coming months.”

The club confirmed earlier that they had agreed to release Ashley Giles from his contract which expires in 2018 adding that after lengthy discussions the board has agreed to give further support to Ashley’s personal circumstances and has given him permission to discuss a move to his home county in the best interests of his family.

Commenting on his departure, Ashley Giles said: “This has been one of the most difficult decisions of my cricketing career. I would like to thank everyone at Emirates Old Trafford for their support over the last two years and wish them well for the coming year.
