Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left in a critical condition after being assaulted in Moss side.

Glen Smith, a 58 year old man was attacked by two men on Alexandra Road in Moss Side around 5.00am on Saturday 15th April.

Police and ambulance services attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment. He is still in a critical condition.

Witnesses have described two offenders, one is described as mixed race, of medium build, around 5ft7in tall with short dark hair and stubble. He was wearing a grey tracksuit and blue trainers and may have a tattoo on his cheek.

The other was a white man, around 5ft7in tall, of medium build and with a beard. He was also wearing a grey tracksuit.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.

Detective inspector Mark Davis of GMP’s City of Manchester Borough said: “First of all my thoughts are with the victim and his family. I want to assure them that we are doing all that we can to find the people responsible.

“This was a vicious and brutal attack on an older man which has left him with very serious injuries. I am appealing for anyone who may have seen this incident or knows who the two attackers are, to get in touch.

His family said: “Glen is fun loving and very friendly guy with lots of friends and is really well known in the community. He would never hurt anyone and we can’t believe that someone would do something like this to him”

Any information, no matter how small could be vital to help us give the victim and his family the answers they deserve.”
