A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in police custody for questioning following Monday’s ram-raid at a city centre jewellers.
Officers from the City of Manchester Team and Salford Borough executed two warrants in the Salford area, one in the Sale area and one in the Manchester area this morning.
The move followed the raid on Monday night in St Ann’s Square when a group of men arrived in a stolen Alfa Romeo and rammed through the shop front to get inside.
Two of the assailants then used hammers to smash open the display cases while two more men waited outside on motorbikes.
They stole watches worth tens of thousands of pounds before fleeing the scene.
Detective Inspector Rebecca Boyce, of GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “This was a brazen robbery that happened in the city centre on a busy bank holiday Monday.
“These men caused significant damage to the shop as well as stealing high value jewellery from inside and based on information we’ve gathered from our enquiries, we have been able to take action this morning and progress our investigation.
“While we currently have someone in custody and although this happened late at night, it is still possible that people have information about what happened and they may have been in the area at the time.
“I’m particularly interested in speaking to anyone who saw an Alpha Romeo or two motorbikes driving erratically in the area at the time.”
