A 30 year old driver was killed yesterday evening in Chadderton.

He was driving a Toyota Yaris travelling north on Broadway when it collided  with a Ford Fiesta.

The Yaris rolled a number of times before colliding with the traffic lights in the middle of the road and coming to a stop.

The driver was taken to hospital but died shortly after

The 37-year-old driver of the Fiesta was also taken to hospital for minor injuries and was later discharged.

Police Sergeant Lee Westhead, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This was a terrible incident which has now left a family without their loved one and I would like to extend my sincere condolences to them for their loss.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to please come forward, particularly anyone who may have dashcam footage that captured the collision.

“This happened on a busy main road at a time when there likely would have been quite a few cars still driving around so we are hopeful that there will be a number of key witnesses who can assist with our investigation.

“If you believe that you can help us then I would urge you to please come forward.”

Anyone with information should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4742.
