Stand up comedian Mark Dolan is to perform a stand-up gig this Saturday night at Manchester’s Red Lion pub from 7pm to raise money for Help for Heroes.

The gig is all part of the Bell’s Barrel of Laughs challenge which sees comics including Fred MacAulay, Tom Wrigglesworth and Rufus Hound, relay rolling a barrel the length of the country.

Locals are invited to give a suggested £5 donation on entry for the show, with tickets available on a first come first served basis.

Joanna Lumley kicked off the nine day, 517 mile challenge on Monday at the Blair Athol Distillery in Perthshire, with the finish line set for Tedworth House, in Wiltshire.

The stars are set to raise thousands of pounds for the Armed Forces’ charity along the route through donations, text pledges and by performing gigs for veterans and locals at various pubs.

Bell’s has joined forces with the comics in the latest phase of its fundraising for the charity, which has already surpassed £1million in recent years.

Bell’s Brand Manager, Lauren Wahlhaus, says: “This challenge is all about celebrating strength of character. For our comics, this is one of the toughest tests of their lives because it challenges them both mentally and physically however, we know they will dig deep and display the true grit that Bell’s really champions.

“The gigs are the easy bit for them – and a chance for local communities to enjoy a one-off experience in their local. Bell’s is personally inviting the people of Manchester along to the Red Lion pub to raise a glass to the nation’s heroes, donate whatever you can and have a giggle whilst you are with us!”
