Salford Academy Trust has announced that Irlam and Cadishead College will convert to Academy status within the Salford Academy Trust from July 1.

Salford Academy Trust is a small multi-academy trust, backed by three trustees, Salford City Council, Salford City College and the University of Salford.

ICC is the fourth school to join the organisation.

CEO of the Salford Academy Trust Kevin Rowlands said: “This is good news for parents and current and future students whose future now looks to be filled with fresh aspiration for the years ahead.

“It will give greater opportunities for collaborative work with our other schools and will become part of a growing community. This is a new beginning and removes Irlam and Cadishead College from special measures, creating an opportunity to move forward positively.

“I am excited about the future for Irlam and Cadishead College. I am committed to a long term vision for the young people within this community. Working with the leadership team in the school we intend to continue to raise the bar of expectation for our students, because we believe that is what they deserve.

“Raising the expectations that we place on our young people is essential if they are to succeed, both academically and through their wider personal development. I am ambitious for the Trust and want us to build a reputation for excellence in education across Salford and beyond. I feel this is a great opportunity for close partnership working which I believe will have a direct impact and positive impact on the success of ICC.”

Councillor Lisa Stone, lead member for children’s and young people’s services at Salford City Council, said: “I am pleased to see Irlam and Cadishead College moving into the Salford Academy Trust which is in a strong position to provide the support they need because of the resources and commitment of the three partners. We look forward to working with ICC to get the best for our young people.”

Michael Walsh, Deputy Principal of Salford City College said “Salford City College are extremely excited at forging even stronger links with Irlam and Cadishead College through the SAT, and at working with them to provide a wide range of post-16 options for their students now and in the future.”

Paul Ward, Head of UK Partnerships at the University of Salford said “As a sponsor institution committed to widening participation in higher education from its local community, the University of Salford is delighted to welcome ICC into the Salford Academy Trust and we look forward to working with them to maximise the learning opportunities for their students.”

The new term in September will see an official launch for students, parents and all parties involved in creating a new future for the young people of the area.
