Quays Festival opens in MediaCityUK this summer with a unique, one-off performance of the critically acclaimed, multi-media stage show – Broken – re-created as an outdoor spectacular.

Broken is an awe-inspiring, adrenaline filled journey to the centre of the earth that will shake up the Quays in ways you’ve never seen before.

Broken will be performed at 21.30 on Saturday 16th July 2016 at the MediaCityUK Piazza – a one show only experience that is free for all to enjoy.

Presented outdoors for the first time, the 70-minute performance from globally renowned UK dance theatre company Motionhouse combines jaw-dropping aerial acrobatics, dance and circus with digital imagery, stunning set design and a gripping narrative set to a thunderous, searing soundtrack.

Hanging in suspense and scrambling to safety, the dancers will negotiate the cracks and craters of a world of illusions where nothing is quite as it seems – examining our precarious relationship with the planet through a thrilling, fast-paced performance like no other.

Lucy Dusgate, Programme Producer of Quays Culture says: “It is fantastic to be working closely with Motionhouse to stage the first outdoor, large-scale production of Broken. Quays Festival introduces the public to world-class arts that utilise the latest digital technology and Broken is at the very pinnacle of this. We are delighted to be able to bring this monumental, spectacular show to its biggest audience and invite everyone to enjoy it at no cost.”

Kevin Finnan MBE, Artistic Director of Motionhouse, said: “We are delighted to be invited to perform Broken at Quays Festival. At Motionhouse we explore ways to create 4D spectacles using choreography, digital imagery, sound and lighting. As a destination for innovative cultural events and performances, we are thrilled to share our brand of dance, circus and digital art in the unique and inspiring context of The Quays.”

The Times describes the show as:

“An heroic cast of six slaloms through a series of scenes, starting with The Big Bang, delving down towards the Earth’s core. There’s a definite circus-style slant to the gut busting choreography devised by Finnan and his ensemble…a remarkably strong, acrobatic sextet endowed with an admirable go for broke stamina. The beauty lies in how well Finnan and his collaborators impart an elemental understanding of humanity’s place within the cosmos… determined to mine the greater forces of nature [the show has] a sleek, swift, wow factor.”
