Launch of world’s first app that connects ideas to top coaches, brands and money using gamification

· Manchester City Council and StreetGames are also part of initiative, while Creative England will put £40,000 into one winning idea and MCFC will adopt ideas

Ideas Britain, the mobile platform which connects young people with great ideas to expert business coaches and brands, has launched ‘Innovation in Sport’ – the debut competition on Ideas Britain’s unique app, where gamification, social sharing and entertainment are used to encourage young people from all walks of life to ‘have a go’.

The national competition aims to uncover creative ideas that have the potential to forge real innovation in the world of sport and beyond. Entry is open for all young people across the UK who have an idea, no matter how ambitious or extraordinary the concept might be.

The competition is supported by Manchester City FC, Manchester City Council, youth sports charity StreetGames, and Creative England – a not-for-profit organisation that invests in and supports the creative industries. Entrants can submit their concepts in 30 seconds onto the newly launched Ideas Britain app and winners will be announced in mid-January.

Early-bird submissions were screened and assessed by elite Ideas Britain business coaches at last night’s launch event at Manchester’s Central Library. Two ideas were immediately adopted on the night by Ideas Britain coaches during an app showcase segment.

Manchester City Football Club’s Head of Research & Insights Andrew Gilligan, and Head of Research & Innovation Ed Sulley also attended the event where it was announced that the Club would offer bespoke work experience opportunities to the lucky winners.

Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, said:

“We welcome and support Ideas Britain’s ambition to grow and expand the numbers of entrepreneurs in Manchester and beyond. The use of mobile technologies to capture and harness creative ideas and turn them into reality, is in tune with the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of our city.

“Aligning the first Ideas Britain competition with sport builds upon Manchester’s position as a globally recognised sporting city and I hope that Manchester can become the home of the first winner of the Ideas Britain competition.”

The competition will run until December 25th, 2015. Winners will be announced in mid-January, 2016, following a mentoring, development and acceleration phase of competition.
