Homelessness is becoming a growing issue in Manchester and the surrounding boroughs, and this panel aims to explore if anything is “any better than it used to be?” and what do we want to our future histories for homeless people and our society to look like, guided by the decisions we make today.

In this discussion as part of the Manchester Histories Celebration Day held at Manchester Town Hall, the panel will discuss if perceptions, attitudes and people’s experiences of being homeless changed over the years, and what do we want to/need to do to ensure that things improve in future years?

Panelists include Christian Lisseman, Producer at Big Issue North, Jenny Osbourne, Strategic Lead for Adults’ Health for Manchester City Council and lead on the Homelessness Charter;

Actress and Manchester Histories’ Patron, Maxine Peake, Julie-Marie Strange, Professor of British History at the University of Manchester.

A representative from Arthur+Martha who have recently facilitated and managed the production of the first Homelessness Library documenting the histories of homeless people.
It is intended to be a lively and interactive discussion, so Manchester Histories are asking members of the audience to come with questions prepared and ready to join in on this current and challenging topic.

Date: Saturday 11 June, 3.30pm – 4.45pm
