Greater Manchester Tory MP’s Sir Graham Brady, William Wragg and Chris Green were among the 432 MP’s who rejected Theresa May’s Brexit withdrawal agreement inflicting the greatest ever modern defeat on a government by 230 votes.

All of the region’s Labour MP’s voted against the deal which saw their leader Jeremy Corbyn table a motion of no confidence in the government which will be debated and voted on today.

Tory Cheadle MP Mary Robinson was the only member in the region to vote for the deal

In a statement on Twitter the Hazel Grove MP said:

“It is with regret, but in good conscience, that I voted against the government this evening.Without significant changes to the legally-binding text of the Withdrawal Agreement, particularly regarding the Northern Ireland Protocol- ‘The Backstop’- I was unable to give it my support.” adding

“The Government should restate its commitment to securing citizens’ rights, cooperation in security matters and facilitating free trade with our European friends & neighbours.”

“It should go forward with confidence and seek a better deal, while sensibly preparing for departing on World Trade Organisation terms.”
