Manchester Day has grown in to the community event of the summer, inviting more than 1,500 people to parade through the city centre to celebrate this year’s theme: The Word on the Street.
More than 60 community groups have worked with the region’s top artists for months to create the thousands of individual artworks – from the gigantic floats to the props and costumes. Everything has been completely hand-made in the WoW Workshop with the help from outdoor arts specialists, Walk the Plank.
Manchester Day begins at midday and the party continues throughout the afternoon until 6pm, and tens of thousands of people are expected to come together to celebrate the best of Manchester’s communities, diversity and history.
The parade itself begins at 1pm from Liverpool Road, taking in Deansgate, Peter Street and Albert Sq before returning to Deansgate, ending in Exchange Square at around 2.30pm.
The fun does not end there as the city centre Squares – Albert Square, St Ann’s Square and Cathedral Gardens – will be full of exciting performances and entertainment throughout the afternoon.
Foodies will have their pick of the best street food Manchester has to offer, curated by experts in the field, Manchester Food and Drink festival. Bring and empty stomach.
