The Christmas season is renowned for random acts of kindness and generosity and one University of Bolton lecturer is hoping the festive spirit could help propel his new television drama to success.

Dark Fables is an independent television pilot developed by Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in Special Effects for Film and TV, Richard McEvoy-Crompton.

The film-makers are now attempting to raise £7,000 funding for the production via the indiegogo website.

Funders will receive a range of perks depending on their financial investment into the production, with £3 securing a download of the film to £300 allowing you to be an extra.

Richard is renowned monster maker, having worked as a SFX designer since 2008. His wonderful creations, including zombies and aliens, have featured in films and music videos.

Set in modern day Manchester, Dark Fables is a supernatural action adventure series following the plight of its two main characters, Addison and Rae.

Addison is a monster-battling, creature-destroying artefacts trader who crosses paths with Rae, a young girl living on the street.

The pilot, of what Richard hopes will develop into a ten episode series, will centre on how the pair meet and their subsequent journey of self-discovery.

Richard is working with director Ash Tidball and writer Keith Lewis, with the trio having already worked on the award winning short ‘Zomco: Waste Management and Body Disposal’.

He now guides the next generation of model-makers and makeup artists, through the SVFX course at the University. The course has links to several of the country’s top SFX houses and FX artists and have graduates whose credits include X-Men: First Class, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, The Avengers and Edge of Tomorrow.
