Clitheroe 6-1 Droylsden

The Bloods were on the end of a six goal thrashing at a very wet Shawbridge but it wasn’t the remnants of Storm Abigail that spoilt the afternoon, rather some very naive defending against promotion contenders Clitheroe.

The Bloods took the lead after just five minutes when winger Billy Hasler Cregg latched onto a deflected ball to fire into the net. However the lead was short lived with a lively Sefton Gonzalez running through the centre to equalize.

In a first half of few chances for both teams, it was the home team who would take the lead just after the half hour through Scott Harries.

The Bloods had a great chance to level just before half time after some great work on the left by Dominic Smith but Hasler Cregg was unable to control the ball with the goal seemingly at his mercy.

Droylsden began the second half lively with a Mike Koral shot blocked by some stout defending but at the other end, Daniel Brady hit the bar from close range.

After that it was the Bloods goal that would come under siege and a procession of goals. Clitheroe’s third coming from substitute Michael Hampson heading home from the far post on 54 mins and just after Sefton Gonzalez just headed wide.

Clitheroe’s Jonathan Hession put the game to bed with two goals in five minutes, pouncing as the Blood’s defence switched off in the sixty seventh minute and then pouncing on a ball through the centre to make it five.

James Hampson then completing a miserable afternoon for Droylsden rounding Ramsbottom in the last minute of the game to make it six.

The Bloods travel to the East Coast next Saturday to take on Scarborough at Bridlington FC and Dave Pace’s men will be hoping for a much improved performance.
