A 93-year-old woman was left requiring hospital treatment after an attempted robbery in Chadderton yesterday.

Police have released the images of two men they want to speak to in connection with incident.

The victim was waiting at a bus stop on Turf Lane at 11.55 when two men attempted to snatch her handbag.

The woman was dragged to the floor, banging her head and leaving her with multiple injuries to her head, knees and hands.

She was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries and has since been discharged.

The offenders fled empty-handed.

Detective Sergeant Alex Wilkinson of GMP’s Oldham Division said: “This was a violent, cowardly attack on an elderly woman.

“It is hard to imagine what kind of individual would target a vulnerable member of the community and leave them with multiple injuries.

“This attack could have had much graver consequences. It is only due to the remarkable strength of the victim that she has been able to leave hospital and continue her recovery at home.

“We are following numerous lines of enquiry to trace the offenders and I would urge anyone who has information, or recognises the men in these pictures, to contact police immediately.

“Perhaps you were in the area at the time and captured dash cam footage that may help us.

“The incident occurred at a bus stop served by the number 81 bus and it’s possible that users of this bus may have seen the men in these pictures.

“If you can help; don’t hesitate to call us.”
