Despite forensic work, fingerprint testing and enquiries with other forces, officers have not yet been able to find the thieves.

As part of their enquiries, they are keen to speak to the man pictured and are appealing for anyone who recognises him to get in touch.

It follows an elaborate scam where a thief duped an airport meet and greet company into handing over the couple’s grey Audi Q7 (Reg: M44 ACA).

On 14 September last year the victims went to Manchester Airport and dropped their vehicle with a meet and greet employee. This company collects cars from customers before taking them back to the airport when the customer returns.

Four days later a man convinced the company he was a partner of one of the victims and met with them to collect the car. All the official paper work was signed before the thief drove away in the stolen car.

It was only when the couple returned on 19 September, and were horrified to find out someone had already taken the car, the company realised what had happened.

The car was traced to a location in Lancashire but despite a search, it was never found.

Detective Sergeant Alex Wild, from GMP’s Manchester Airport division, said: “This offence was clearly well-planned and no doubt had a number of people involved in order to carry it out the way they did.

“We have been trying to unpick exactly who did this and despite extensive enquiries we still haven’t identified those responsible.

“However, we now have a picture of a man we really need to identify and speak with as part of this investigation.

“I would urge anyone who recognises him, or has any information about him or the offence, to please call police.
