Police investigating the death of a man in Collyhurst at the weekend are now treating it as murder.

The body of a 53-year-old man was found at a property on Hamerton Road on Sunday lunchtime.

A crime scene was immediately established and forensic officers have been combing the man’s flat for evidence.

Following a Home Office Post Mortem it was revealed the man suffered unexplained injuries and detectives are now treating his death as a murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Larkin of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We are now more than 24 hours into this investigation and what was originally being treated as an unexplained death is now believed to be murder.

“Officers have been knocking on doors and speaking to people in the area while CCTV is also being recovered to see if there are any leads we can follow.

“There is a dedicated team working to understand exactly what has happened to this man and we will not stop until we find the person responsible.

“Again, I would implore people to get in touch with any information or anything that appeared unusual or suspicious from Friday evening into Sunday.”
