Whitefield Library

Ten Libraries across Bury will close their doors for the last time on the 20th December.

The closures, say the council are result of continuing pressure on all council budgets; as part of the response to this a full review of library services was carried out.

Following a year-long public consultation the decision was made by the council to reduce the library budget by £1million; this means that staff, building, services and opening hours will also have to reduce.

The ten that will close are Ainsworth Library,Brandlesholme Community Centre and Library,Castle Leisure Centre Library,Coronation Road Community Centre and Library,Dumers Lane Community Centre and Library,Moorside Community Centre and Library,Topping Fold Community Centre and Library,Tottington Library,Unsworth Library and Whitefield Library and Adult Learning Centre.

Only four libraries will remain open across the borough,.Bury, Prestwich, Radcliffe and Ramsbottom Libraries but says the council, the constraints of the library budget mean that opening hours will have to be reduced from their current level.

“but alongside this we will expand the use of buildings by community and other groups both during and outside library opening hours
