A cyclist who was injured in a collision with a car in Ashton-under-Lyne on Tuesday has sadly died police have disclosed

The accident happened around 6.45am at Park Parade, close to the junction with Scotland Street,

The cyclist,believed to be in his 20’s was hit by a black Ford Fiesta was driving on Park Parade.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for life threatening head injuries but he tragically died yesterday.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving and has since been released under investigation.

Police Constable John Harrison-Gough, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost I want to extend my sincere condolences to the family of the man that passed away yesterday.

“We are working to provide them with support from specially trained officers as they come to terms with their loss.

“Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision remains ongoing and we are still appealing for anyone with information to contact us.”
