A contemporary artist has secured a publishing contract with leading fine art publisher, Washington Green Fine Art, after exhibiting at the company’s ‘Summer Exhibition 2018’.

Richard Levine from East Sussex was named ‘Judges Choice’ at an awards evening held at Castle Fine Art on Manchester’s King Street last night (Thursday 23rd August). The event marked the end of Washington Green’s Summer Exhibition 2018, which offered 20 aspiring artists, whittled down from over 600 applicants, the opportunity to showcase their work in the gallery for a month.

Overall winning artist Richard Levine explores the geometric structure of iconic imagery in his art. By playing with geometric shapes and blocks of colour he exposes the details of the pattern while allowing his audience to appreciate the overall form. He will now go on to enjoy a full-time art career with Washington Green, which has been in the business for more than 30 years, and counts names such as Bob Dylan and Ronnie Wood on its books.

Two additional artists were also presented with awards at the event. Sadie Aucott from Devon won the ‘Innovation Award’ for the free-form wire technique she uses to weave, knot and twist, creating definition and shading to capture the essence of animals.

New Zealand native, Tim Christie, was named the ‘People’s Choice’. He is the mastermind behind fashion-forward concept MONOMOKO, which sees him combine photography and digital illustration to create images that fuse age-old tradition with modern technology.

Speaking about his award-win, Richard Levine said: “Being selected by Washington Green to exhibit in the Summer Exhibition 2018 was an achievement in itself, and to be named Judges’ Choice and offered a publishing contract is beyond all my wildest dreams.

“This opportunity has given me a great platform to share my work and I’m looking forward to seeing how my career progresses.”

Glyn Washington, creative director of Washington Green Fine Art, said: “This year’s Summer Exhibition attracted more talent than ever. With our shortlisted artists hailing from all around the world, it was fantastic to welcome them to the gallery to celebrate their success together at the awards evening.

“Richard is a truly deserving winner for his experimental and creative artworks which impressed us all. We look forward to supporting his growth as an artist and seeing where he takes his work next.”
