For one week in July, Contact’s Contacting the World festival will celebrate collaboration between six young companies from five countries.
Young people from around the world will create three pieces of new work exploring artificial intelligence, translation, identity and migration in Imitation Games, a performance on 16 July.

The young companies from Hong Kong, Denmark, Portugal, Belgium and the UK will collaborate over an intensive week at Contact, creating an evening of performance led by three directors: Contact’s Artistic Director, Matt Fenton; Stacy Makishi, a celebrated performance artist and director of the Contact Young Company’s acclaimed show Under the Covers, and Adam McGuigan of Bare Feet Theatre and Spare Parts Festival.

The festival week kicks off on Monday 11 July with Welcome to Manchester, a celebration of home-grown performance hosted by Kate O’Donnell (Big Girls Blouse). In the exciting line up are Louise Wallwein, Company Chameleon, Jackie Hagan and up and coming urban music act Cul De Sac. There will be short films from three local schools and the launch of Making Contact, a film and online project capturing Contact’s unique history.

Surrounding Contacting the World’s core programme are special editions of Contact’s regular events, Mixed Movement, an open stage event for dancers and RAW (Rhythm and Words) an open mic for poets, vocalists and MC’s; plus a panel discussion exploring internationalism in politics, the arts, and the everyday.

Tickets are priced £11/£6 concession for Imitation Games and Welcome to Manchester. Mixed Movement, RAW and the panel discussion are free. Book online at contactmcr.com or call Contact’s Box Office on 0161 274 0600.
