Experience a football match as never before when Contact presents the UK Premiere of We’re Not Really Here, a football opera celebrating the highs, the lows, the drama, the excitement, the emotions and the banter behind being a dedicated and die-hard football fan.

This unique theatre show puts the audience centre stage – quite literally – where they will be seated on the stage watching a cast of up to 100 genuine Manchester City Fans sat in the ‘terraces’ re-enacting a typical match day. The theatre will be transformed into a stadium, where the audience will be transported via the magic of theatre to experience what only the players get to feel – a stadium full of excited and emotional fans. Sometimes tender and intimate, sometimes ear-splittingly loud, this 90 minute extravaganza will offer a rare insight into the theatricality of the beautiful game on match day.

Developed previously with football clubs in Belgium, Czech Republic, Holland, Finland and Ireland, this is the first time this theatrical piece has been shown in England, and with a club with the scale and reputation ofManchester City. We’re Not Really Here features only real-life City fans sharing and telling their personal stories and experiences, devised by a team of acclaimed, international and professional creatives including the directors of legendary Belgian theatre company het Kip.

Matt Fenton, Artistic Director of Contact, said:

“As a leader in placing Mancunians at the centre of our city’s art and culture, it is amazing to have a Contact theatre show celebrating fans in this football-centric city. I cannot see a better way to start off an exciting and packed season of shows and events at Contact.”

Jeff Howarth, Marketing Director for Manchester City, said:

“We are delighted that Contact will be bringing this exciting show to Manchester.  ‘We’re Not Really Here’ will be a great way to showcase the passion of City fans and explore the stories of what makes supporting this Club so special.
