A man has been stabbed in Manchester City Centre this evening.

The stabbing took place at the  junction of Oldham Street and Piccadilly just before 6.00pm, the man was taken to hospital to be treated for stab wounds to his chest.

Police officers remain at the scene carrying out enquiries and anybody with information is asked to come forward.

Chief Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry of GMP’s City of Manchester Division said: “We are in the very early stages of our investigation and we currently have officers at the scene conducting enquiries to ascertain exactly what happened.

“Our early enquiries have led us to believe that the incident happened at the junction of Oldham Street and Piccadilly shortly before 5:55pm so it’s likely there will have been a large number of witnesses.

“If you have any information that you believe can assist us then I would urge you to contact police immediately.”
