Two men were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated into an incident involving 6 males.

During the incident, a 30-year-old man suffered multiple stab wounds. He was immediately taken to hospital and released a few days later.

Police have now released images of people they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Kelly, of GMP’s Bury division, said: “This was a violent altercation which happened in a busy bar in front of numerous people who were out to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

“The victim sustained nasty wounds, including a punctured lung and piercing to his liver, and was fortunate his injuries were not even more severe.

“We are not treating this as an isolated incident and believe it is linked to another serious act of violence in the area that we are also investigating.

“I would like to reassure the community that we have made significant progress with our investigation, but it is now important that we speak with the men pictured in the CCTV images.

“I am appealing to the public to please study the pictures and get in touch if you recognise any of the people.

“Equally, if you were a witness to the incident inside the bar that night, we also need to hear from you.”
