Outdoor arts experts Walk the Plank have commissioned artist Simon Buckley to document the evolution of the company’s new home and outdoor arts centre Cobden Works, based in Salford.

Walk the Plank, creators of award-winning outdoor performance, parades and celebrations, have just started work on their new £1m+ creative hub for outdoor arts in Salford, which is situated on Cobden Street.

The company currently work from several sites across Greater Manchester and the North West. The new multi-practice centre will enable them to consolidate production workshops, training and main office functions on to a single site.

Simon Buckley specialises in documenting regeneration in Manchester and Salford and is well known for his Not Quite Light project. He will document key points in the capital project’s development from now until September 2017 and will also be working with some of Walk the Plank’s creative practitioners to create a series of artistic happenings onsite.

Tom Warman, Marketing and Communications Director at Walk the Plank said: “We’re thrilled to be working with a local artist on this project. We’ve been a fan of Simon’s work for a while and have been really impressed by the way he explores Salford and Manchester urban environments embarking on ambitious change. The opening of Cobden Works as it will give us a chance to bring artists and outdoor arts practitioners under the same roof as our office-based teams, creating an interesting alchemy of skills and creative thinking.”

Simon Buckley said: “This is a great project to be involved in and regeneration projects are passions of mine. I’m really interested in what decisions we make for our towns and cities, and how the actions of planners and architects create a legacy for future generations.”
