Police are treating the death of a man in Heywood yesterday evening as suspicious.
A passer-by discovered the body of a man in an alleyway to the rear of Promenade Street around 11.30pm.
An ambulance was immediately called to the scene, but the man –thought to be in his early 30s- was pronounced dead by paramedics. Officers attended and are treating the death as suspicious.
A Home Office post-mortem is due to take place later today.
Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Rumney said: “We believe we are now in the early stages of a murder investigation, but there remain many unanswered questions as to exactly how and why this man lost his life.
“We would like to ask members of the public to come forward with any information they may have which would help us shed some light on this tragic situation.
“If you were in the area of Promenade Street on Thursday night and believe you saw or heard anything which may assist us in our enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact police.”
