The Police and Fire Service have launched a joint investigation after a body was found in a shed following a fire in Northern Moor this afternoon.

After the fire was extinguished on Mossdale Road, a search of the shed was carried out and a body was found.

Enquiries into how the fire started are ongoing with colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and next-of-kin have been informed.

Anyone with information is asked to come forward and help enquiries.

Inspector John Picton of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “First and foremost I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family who have lost a loved one.

“It’s very early in our investigation, but we’re working closely with the fire service to find out exactly how this happened.

“I would ask anyone who saw something, or who has information about what happened earlier this afternoon, to please contact police.”
