BEAUJOLAIS Day is making a comeback this year – and is doing it in style thanks to Bistrot Pierre.

The French celebration of all things wine reached its height of popularity with Brits in the 1980s – with the fabulously fun Beaujolais Run – and this year, Bistrot Pierre is bringing Beaujolais Day’s party spirit well and truly back.

For the first time, the French restaurant group will be serving a special all-day menu in its 24 bistrots on Thursday 15 November, encouraging its customers and staff to dress up in their most clichéd French attire to fully embrace the event.

“Beaujolais Day is all about having fun and embracing the novelty of being among the first to taste this young wine, which is best served slightly chilled,” said Arpita Anstey, marketing director at Bistrot Pierre.

“It’s written into French law that the first bottle can only be uncorked at 00:01 on the third Thursday in November. We’re making sure that we don’t miss that deadline and are sending a Bistrot Pierre team to race to the Beaujolais region to collect the first crates, meaning that our customers receive the freshest Beaujolais Nouveau 2018.

“We noticed that a lot of people hadn’t heard of Beaujolais Day but it’s always been a popular celebration at Bistrot Pierre’s Welsh sites, in particular. So, we’ve decided to spearhead its return to the nation’s consciousness this year and bring Beaujolais back.

“We’ve filmed our travels and will be releasing a number of short videos documenting our adventures – so make sure you’re following us on social media to find out where we are on our journey to #BringBeaujolaisBack,” continued Arpita.

The Beaujolais Day Menu features French favourites such as boeuf bourguignon and pavé de steak, as well as poulet chasseur and tagine de légumes – which have all been carefully chosen to perfectly complement the Beaujolais Nouveau.

Arpita added: “For £17.95, diners will receive two courses and a glass of Beaujolais Nouveau – which will of course also be available to purchase by the bottle.

“We want to invite customers to come and join in the party and I can’t wait to see a sea of breton stripes and diners celebrating like it’s the 1980s.”
