A pop-up street food market, featuring food stalls from local traders serving global cuisine, alongside local entertainment, is coming to Wythenshawe town centre on Friday 16 November.

The popular FarFlungFridays event will be ‘on tour’ at Wythenshawe Precinct and will feature Greater Manchester-based street food traders including:

Big Grillie Style – American style eats
La Casita – Mexican style street food
Wassanas Thai Noodle – Bangkok style Thai food vendor eats
Northern Grind Coffee – hot drinks, including Italian-style espresso

Pop-up food traders Big Grillie Style and La Casita are firm favourites at Airport City’s FarFlungFridays event and have joined over 40 other local traders showcasing cuisines from destinations that Manchester Airport flies to alongside the best of the Greater Manchester community.

On Friday they will be joined by local traders, Wassanas Thai Noodle and Northern Grind Coffee, who already currently trade from Wythenshawe Market.

There will also be live entertainment by Loose Change Buskers – a charity band started by two Altrincham musicians in 2010 who have raised almost half a million pounds for Cancer Research UK since.

The event will also provide visitors with the opportunity to also find out more about the landmark £1billion Airport City Manchester development, as well as the new terminal transformation project at Manchester Airport, and the work by Real Lives Wythenshawe.

The FarFlungFridays event usually takes place twice per month within Manchester Airport’s ground transport interchange. It recently marked reaching the 10,000 visitors milestone, since it was launched in February 2017.

John McHugh, Head of Strategic & Commercial Marketing for Airport City, said: “FarFlungFridays at Platform Airport City continues to go from strength-to-strength and is no longer a ‘well-kept secret’, so we are very excited to be taking it on tour to Wythenshawe.

“Airport City Manchester is right on the doorstep of Wythenshawe, so as the area continues to boom, we want to make sure we the growing local community has access to the opportunities that Airport City will provide and feel part of the story.

“We’ve been working with a number of local stakeholders such as Manchester Markets and St Modwen to make this possible, alongside Airport City’s involvement with BW3 and Real Lives Wythenshawe – and we really hope that people turn up so see what it’s all about.”

Daniel Davis, Town Centre Manager in Wythenshawe at St. Modwen, said: “This is great news for Wythenshawe and we’re really pleased to help bring the successful FarFlungFridays event here – it’s a positive sign of things to come in terms the future aspirations for Wythenshawe town centre.

“We are really keen to support local businesses, big or small, and the traders who will be appearing as part of this pop-up will all add to the existing offer of the town centre and bring something new, different and tasty to the table.

“With the recent announcement of The Hut Group’s plans to locate at Airport City Manchester and deliver up to 10,000 jobs, it’s clear that this project is starting to move forward at pace now. This represents a huge opportunity for the wider area and the people and businesses that are already here, so we are pleased to be collaborating with all of the stakeholders involved to make it happen.”
