The city-wide celebration of Manchester is back this coming June ready to transform the city centre with a theme that is all about magic…
Returning on Sunday, 18 June, Manchester Day has become one of the UK’s biggest outdoor events and an unmatched community project, inviting up to 2,000 people to parade through the streets to celebrate the city’s achievements through its history.

This year’s theme – Abracadabra – will be inspired by the real magic of science, defying expectations and conjuring up a wonderful vision of the magic of Manchester!

From the thrill of the make believe, to the real magic of science, Manchester is always conjuring up something different to defy expectations.

From a small Lancastrian township, to an industrial metropolis of the world, Manchester is no stranger to magical transformation. We’ll be celebrating a city that’s full of surprises and always has a trick or two up its sleeve.

The city council along with the producers of Manchester Day, Walk the Plank, are now inviting applications to get involved with this year’s amazing celebration and be part of one of the biggest street parties in the country.
The deadline for applications is Monday, 6 February 2017

Cllr Pat Karney, Chair of Manchester Day, said: “We’ve all felt the magic of Manchester -the history, the achievements, the pride – and this is your chance to be part of the biggest celebration of the year. The colossal event has become a red letter day that communities across the city look forward to, and this year’s theme will reveal itself as the best yet.

“The magical Abracadabra theme gives this year’s community groups so much scope to be creative with their ideas and gives our magnificent artists a huge challenge to bring everything to life before June. This will be the best thing you do in 2017, so come forward and get involved.”
