Police are appealing for the driver of a black car which killed an elderly man in a  collision in Cheadle Hulme last night to hand themselves in.
The accident happened around 10.10pm when police officers were called to the Ryecroft Arms on Turves Road, following reports that a man had been hit by a car.

An ambulance was immediately sent to the scene, though sadly the man – thought to be in his 80s- has since been pronounced dead by paramedics.

Witnesses describe seeing a small black car, possibly a coupe or hatchback, driving at speed away from the scene of the collision towards the A34.

The vehicle is believed to have damage to its front windscreen.

Sgt Mark Thomas, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “It is only a matter of time until we find the person responsible for this collision, which has cruelly snatched a man’s life away.

“It happened near the Ryecroft Arms pub, and we have witnesses coming forward telling us they saw a black car speeding away from the scene and towards the A34 in the moments after the collision.

“With the CCTV opportunities outside the pub and at several other locations in the area, it is only a matter of time until we are able to identify this vehicle and the driver inside.

“I would now like to appeal directly to the driver of the car. Come forward before we find you.

“Similarly, if anyone knows anything which may assist our investigation please contact police as a matter of urgency.

“If you saw a black vehicle in the area at the time of the collision, or anything else suspicious, please ring us or Crimestoppers if you wish to remain anonymous.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 2281/130117 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
