Midfielder Ben Pringle admitted manager Richie Wellens was a big reason behind his loan move to Oldham Athletic.

Pringle signed on loan for the rest of the season and admitted Wellens played a huge part in his move.

He said: “I know the gaffer quite well from playing against him. I had a brief chat with him and I liked what he had to say and I need to play football so it seemed the right fit to come here.

“I’ve not played in quite a while now and that’s what I need to do. I need to get some games and match the heights I reached at Rotherham [where he was named in the League One Team of the Year].”

The 28-year-old has come up against Wellens on a number of occasions so he knows what to expect from his team.

“As a player he gave his all and he gave 100% so I’m expecting the same from him as a manager,” he commented.

“I’ve trained a few times now and he likes to get the ball down and make his teams play so hopefully we can do that.”

Pringle has been training with his teammates ahead of this weekend’s clash against Rotherham United.

“It seems a good bunch to be fair,” he said. “I spoke to Eoin Doyle and he said the same thing so it’s easy to come into.”
