A 33-year-old man from Whitefield has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the shooting of a man in Prestwich earlier this week.

Three masked men had arrived at the victim’s home, retreated and returned an hour later when they forced entry through the rear of the property.

They went through the house and were met by the 49-year-old man on the stairs, at which point they fired a shotgun at close range.

The trio then fled from the house in the direction of Poppythorn Road.

The man was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The 33-year-old man remains in custody for interview.

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Cadden of GMP’s Bury borough, said: “While we’ve made an arrest, our investigation into how this situation unfolded continues.

“We are still following a number of lines of enquiry and are asking the public’s help in sharing any detail that could prove vital to our investigation.

“If you were around Glebelands Road or Poppythorn Road between 6.30pm and 8.30pm on Monday evening, or have information that could help us identify who this trio are, please get in touch.”
