A twenty six year old man has died and another has been seriously injured after a Black VW Golf hit at tree in Denton yesterday evening.

The accident happened near to the Arden Arms pub on Ashton Road, the car was being driven towards Ashton at the time and three people were inside including the driver.

The 26-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene while a 24-year-old man who is currently in hospital with serious injuries has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A second passenger, aged 25,suffered serious leg injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Sergeant Lee Westhead from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “An investigation has commenced to establish the circumstances of this tragic collision, my thoughts are with the families of those involved.

“I would urge witnesses to the collision, anyone who saw the occupants of the VW Golf before the collision or those with any information, to contact my team as soon as possible on 0161 856 4741.”
