Could you write, practise and then perform multiple pieces of theatre in only 24 hours?

It may seem unlikely, but this is the basis for a fund-raising project for the Festival Theatre, Hyde, in partnership with Tameside Council Cultural Services.

On Friday, September 4, 24 actors, a mix of amateurs and professionals – will gather at the Corporation Street venue. They will divide into four groups, each with a director and writer. Over the following 24 hours, six plays will be written, rehearsed and performed.

Without a doubt, this will be an exceptional 24 hours of theatre.

Each writer will spend the night creating a play which the remaining actors will rehearse the following day under the director’s leadership. All the plays will be performed in front of an audience that evening (Saturday, September 5) without scripts.
Cllr Jackie Lane, Tameside Council’s assistant executive member for culture, said: “This project has always created really interesting an innovative theatre. I’m sure this year’s event will be even more successful than those of previous years.”

Festival Theatre chairman Peter Wright added: “There’s a lot of pressure involved but it’s also a lot of fun and we raise money, too.

“Since its inception in 2010 the festival has now become a popular and well-attended event on the theatre’s calendar. Come and see if we can do it for a sixth time in 2015. Previous years have virtually sold out so book early to avoid disappointment.”

Because of the unpredictable nature of an event like this, it is suggested that it may only be suitable for people aged 15 and over.
