A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a man was discovered in Newton Heath on Tuesday afternoon

The body was found in an area of woodland on Ten Acres Lane
with multiple serious injuries.

At this time the cause of his death is currently unknown.

Detectives are now appealing for the public’s help to identify the man and establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

He is described as medium build with scruffy facial hair, aged in his 40s or 50s, white and was wearing black clothing.

Detective Chief Inspector Lewis Hughes, of GMP Major Incident Team, said: “This is a tragic set of circumstances where a man has lost his life and every effort is going in to identifying him and finding his family.

“At this early stage of the investigation we are yet to establish this man’s identity and we need the public’s help to find out who he is.

“We understand that this will cause concern in the community but we have a significant team of detectives working on this investigation who are conducting house to house visits as well as extensive CCTV enquiries.

“You may see extra officers patrolling the area, if you have any concerns please approach them and they will assist you in any way they can.

“His body was found at one of the busiest times of the day where a lot of people may have seen something that they don’t realise could be key to this investigation. Every piece of information is vital in helping us build a full picture of how he died.

“We are appealing for anyone who may know anything about this man’s death, to come and speak to police as soon as possible.

“If you were in the Ten Acres Lane area of Newton Heath over the last few days, particularly around the woodland or canal path and saw anything suspicious, then please get in touch”.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 1447 of Tuesday 8 August 2017, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
