An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a 55 year old man was attacked in Shaw last weekend.

The man was walking along the bridge of Linney Lane, and As he tried to pass a group of teenagers they shouted aggressively at him before one of them punched him in the face.

The victim tried to run away but was followed and kicked to the ground. He was then kicked in the back and head which knocked him unconscious.

When he regained consciousness he saw the group of teenagers walking onto Oak Street before taking the first right.

He suffered a three-inch cut to his arm, which required 10 stitches, a cut to his head, lip, left shoulder and knee.

The 18-year-old man has been bailed to 7 April 2017.

Detective Constable Andy Parkin, from GMP’s Oldham borough, said: “I would like to thank the public for their help so far.

“We have arrested one man and are continuing with our enquiries.

“We continue to appeal for information and if you think you know anything about this incident then I would urge you to call police.
