A five year old girl was knocked down and killed by a motor car in Clayton near her home. The car was driven by a Gorton man who told the coroner that the road was dark and no street lamps were lit.
He was traveling at around 12 miles an hour when he saw a black object in the road in front of him-he sounded his horn and swerved but still hit the child.she was taken to the Ancoats hospital but died an hour later.
The coroner found the child’s death was a result of a pure accident.

A man was sentenced to six months in prison for stealing money and securities in a cardboard box from Victoria station.
The victim, Miss Bennett from Poulton Le Fyle, was getting a dog ticket from the booking office when sixty three year old Robert Faulkener snatched the box.
The accused was found the next morning lying helplessly drunk on the Bury new Road having used the money to buy liquor.
